Welcome back to my Seoul post! :)
Today, I want to share one of the highlights of my trip so far - skiing!
To be honest, I never really planned to travel to Korea during the winter because I knew it could be really tough with freezing temperatures that sometimes drop below -10 degrees Celsius.
I've been there during the winter back in 2013 and it was quite a shock for me.
But since Kay and Stella only had a long break in December, and it had been a long time since we had traveled to a country where it snowed, so we decided to plan our trip to Seoul during winter.
We hope to be able to relive some of the memories from our time in Michigan, and experience the joy in the snow again.
So, I looked for fun winter activities that we could do at Trazy.com, and skiing was at the top of our list.
Kay had never been skiing before...it was Stella's first time at a ski resort in Korea...and I had only had a short ski experience in Korea back in 2013, so we were all excited to hit the slopes in Korea and experience the unique culture and beauty of the country.
We are pleasantly surprised that it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip, and it was a trip we'll always remember. :)
Big thanks to Trazy, Korea's #1 Travel Shop for taking care of all the arrangements, we had an amazing time on our ski trip, and they really made it a memorable experience for us!
If you're planning your first ski trip to Korea, I hope this post has given you some useful information, and hope that my experience can be helpful for anyone planning a similar trip in the future.
And, if you want to see some videos of our skiing experience, you can check out my Instagram stories, find me at @mizhippo, I've highlighted them into "Seoul Dec 22" for some funny clips. :)
Before I delve into the details of our ski tour, I wanted to provide some background information about Trazy.
Trazy.com is a comprehensive travel booking website where you can find the best deals on the latest and most popular activities, tours, and events in Korea and Asia.
From tickets to concerts and performances, to beauty and makeup experiences, Trazy has a wide selection of high-quality options to choose from.
It was my first time using Trazy.com for my Korea trip, and I was really pleased with the experience.
In addition to our Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort Ski Tour, I also booked a portable WiFi device and a Gangchon Rail bike ticket through Trazy for our trip.
The booking process was simple and smooth, and the prices were competitive.
I had a great experience using Trazy and would definitely use Trazy again for future travel plans!
I had a great experience using Trazy and would definitely use Trazy again for future travel plans!
With that, let's get the ski tour started!
The night before our trip, our leader, John, contacted me via WhatsApp to provide more information about the trip, like the temperature, what to prepare, what to bring, where to meet the next morning and also to answer any questions I had.
It was very helpful to have this communication beforehand and it made me feel more prepared and confident for the trip.
Anyway, we were lucky to wake up to a lot of snow on the morning of our trip.
I was told by my Korean friend that it's especially nice to go skiing when it's snowing; the snow adds to the beauty of the mountain scenery, and makes the skiing experience even more enjoyable.
It was definitely a treat for us to be able to ski in the snow, added extra excitement to our ski tour!
It took us about one and a half hours to get to the ski resort from the meeting point at Shinsegae in Myeongdong.
The drive was scenic and we enjoyed looking at the winter landscape as we made our way to the mountain.
We made our way to the rental shop as soon as we arrived at the ski resort, where we were fitted for jacket, pants, gloves and goggles.
These were essential for staying warm and comfortable on the slopes.
It was great that we could just rent them instead of having to buy our own. :)
The ski rental shop has a wide selection of jackets and pants to choose from, with a range of colours, designs, and sizes.
It was great to have so many options, as it meant we could find something that fit well and suited our personal style.
Anyway, if you need help or advise about the outfits, the staff at the rental shop were very helpful in assisting with the the selections.
As Trazy package only includes the rental of jackets and pants, we rented most of our ski gear from the ski rental shop, except the goggles and gloves are additional items that need to be rented or purchased separately due to hygiene concerns.
If you already own goggles and gloves, you can bring them with you on your trip, which will save you the cost of renting or purchasing them at the ski resort.
I paid 40,000 won (+/1 RM140.00) for the goggles rental and purchased my own gloves.
It was a small price to pay for the convenience and flexibility of being able to rent the rest of the gear.
It only took about 10 minutes to get from the ski rental shop to the skin mountain.
We arrived at the ski resort and were greeted by the beautiful snowy landscape. #beautiful
Welcome to the Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort!
Our ski package included round trip transportation, ski clothes, ski equipment, a basic group lesson, and a lift pass.
I think it is generally a good idea to purchase a lift pass if you are planning to go skiing.
The lift pass allows you to easily access the ski slopes and enjoy all that the ski resorts has to offer.
Without a lift pass, you might not be able to fully experience the ski resort and all that it has to offer.
When we arrived at the mountain, the first thing we did was visit the ski rental shop to get our gear.
Before we got our skis, we had to get our feet measured at the ski rental shop.
This is important because it ensure that we get skis that are right size and fit properly.
Once we had the right size, we were able to choose our skis and get everything else like pole we needed before hitting the slopes.
I am all ready! ^^
The Trazy package included a ski basic lesson.
It was a great addition as the ski lesson gave us a solid foundation of skills to build on.
The instructor, John was very knowledgeable and took the time to teach us the proper techniques for turning, stopping, and controlling our speed.
Honestly, even though it wasn't my first time skiing, I still found the lesson included in our Trazy package to be really helpful.
We are grateful to our instructor, John, for his patience and helpful tips and techniques.
I felt much more confident on the slops and had a much more enjoyable experience on the slops after taking the short lesson from him.
There are 10 slopes in total at Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort, you can choose where to ski based on your ski skills.
Me and Stella went to the beginner slopes at the ski resort, the Panda and Rabit slopes, with their gentle inclines.
But if you are not yet confident on skis, you can start on the path of beginner's slope.
This slope is designed with a gentle incline and meant to be easier for skiers to navigate.
As the first time skier, Kay said this slope is easier for her to navigate and provide a good opportunity for her to practice and build her skills compare to the beginner Panda and Rabit slopes, me and Stella went.
There are also some challenging slopes; intermediate, advanced & expert slopes, with distance 945 - 1175mm that give you thrills too!
It was a lot of fun and we both enjoyed ourselves.
The view from the cable car was really nice.
We were able to see the beautiful mountain scenery as we rode up to the ski resort.
I actually have a high fear of heights, so riding the cable car to the ski resort was a bit nerve-wracking for me.
Lucky that I had Stella with me, I was able to push through my fear and enjoy the beautiful view and the great skiing experience that awaited us at the top.
The view from the Rabit slope was breathtaking.
I was awe of the natural beauty of the mountain scenery; the mountain scenery was beautiful, with the snow-covered slopes and tress creating a picturesque landscape.
Although it wasn't my first time skiing, it had been a while since I last hit the slopes.
Despite having some previous experiences; few times ski in Michigan, and 1 time ski in Seoul before, I still found myself falling and getting up a few times as I tried to get the hang of it again.
It still quite a new and refreshing experience for me and I really enjoyed the challenge of improving my skills
I hope that I will be able to go skiing every year in Korea, maybe I should set that as my yearly goal to achieve. #hehe
I really enjoy skiing which provides me exciting and challenging way to experience the beauty of the mountain scenery. :)
As we studied in Michigan, it has been a long time, about 18 years since we had the chance to play in the snow.
So after few hours of skiing, we decided to take the chance to play in the snow and make snow angels.
It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves.
The snow was powdery and soft, and it was a great way to relax and have some fun after a day of the slopes.
The trip at Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort brought back some great memories from our time in university and made us feel like we were back in those carefree days.
It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves, reliving some of the joy and excitement of our university years.
Thank you Marshall for his guidance throughout our trip.
We really appreciated his help and expertise on making our ski adventure a success!
Also thank coach, John for his patience and guidance during our ski lessons.
He was a great instructor and gave us some valuable tips and techniques that helps us improve our skiing skill.
Really appreciated his help and it made a big difference in our experience on the slopes.
To wrap up the ski tour post, I just want to express my gratitude for such a memorable experience.
We really had an incredible time on the slopes at Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort, and it was a trip that we'll always cherish.
The mountain scenery was breathtaking, and the skiing itself was a lot of fun.
We were lucky to have a great coach who taught us, and we were grateful to Trazy.com for arranging such a fantastic trip.
I hope that this post has been helpful and I can't wait to share more about my Korea trip with you guys in the coming post, please stay tuned!
