Where To Go for Cafe-Hopping in Bangkok?

Today, I'm gonna throwback my cafe-hopping on my last trip to Bangkok.
During my trip in December 2017/January 2018, I stayed in Bangkok about a week.
If you are on my Instagram @mizhippo, you probably know that I have been to Bangkok many times; at least once a year, and usually I only spent 4 days 3 nights just for the local Thai food and shopping.
This time, I decided to make a one week trip in Bangkok to make sure I have enough time to hunt down some cafes in Bangkok.
I'm a big fans of cafe-hopping, no matter if I'm in KL or other countries, I just love to spend my times at a place where I can chill out with my favourite cup of coffee.
As far as I know, there are many amazing cafes in Bangkok, indeed too many!
I have seen many Thai cafes on social channels and many of them offer very good vibes and atmosphere as in overall.
Well, after I visited some cafes during my trip, I can't deny that many of them are really good and also much better than the ones in KL in terms of the interior, ambiance, and coffee quality.

Izakaya Hanako 花子 Authentic Japanese Food @ Bangkok

Bangkok has lots of Japanese restaurants.
It's easy to get a Japanese restaurant when you walk on the street, especially streets at Sukumvit and Silom.
Sometimes, you may have thought that you are in Japan. #haha
So, while we were walking to the Health Land, a massage centre from Terminal 21 shopping mall, we stumbled upon an authentic Japanese restaurant at a quiet backstreet.
Btw, if you are interested to know about the massage place I go in Bangkok, you can read my previous post at here (though it is written in Chinese).

Since David is a Japanese food lover, so we thought why not we experiment with some Japanese food in Bangkok for this time.
That's how Izakaya Hanako 花子 turned out to be our choice. :)

The restaurant is located on the top floor.
The building looks a bit old, but overall it is clean and nice.
The wooden interior makes you feel as if you are in Japan.
During my visit, there are loads of Japanese here: I would say more than 80% of them are Japanese.

It's always a hard decision when you have 15 pages of menu to choose from.
We took sometimes to order what we want, while the staff served us a complimentary starter with Japanese tofu minced pork.

Ebi Ten Maki @ THB120, is a rice rolled in dried seaweed with shrimp tempura.
I really love the crunchy texture of the shrimp tempura inside the roll.

This is steak, but not beef, it's pork!
Ton Teki @ THB150, is a very tender and tasty grilled pork with a kind of soy sauce.
Love it! Love it!

Lik always like soba, he said this Cha Soba @ THB140, is fresh and chewy with a grainy texture.
Yet, he thought it's nothing really special about it as we can actually get a very good soba in KL too.

Saba Shio @ THB170, which is a grilled Mackerel with salt.
It's a very simple dish, with a flavour that comes only from salt and fish itself; so the fish has to be very fresh!

Kitsune Udon @ THB120, comes with a white thick Japanese noodle and large deep fried tofu, in a clear soup.
If you do not like Udon, you can replace it with soba which is a buckwheat noodle.
For me, I always like to add a bit of chili powder to get a kick of it.

Ton Jiru Nabe @ THB170, is a hot pot pork with miso soup.
It's something new to try because KL always have the hot pork either with chicken or beef.

It's my first time trying the Mito No Kairakuen @ THB380 (160ML).
It is a traditional sochu made from the finest Japanese plums.
And I really enjoy the sour taste!

Overall, the foods are nice and decent at moderate prices.
I would say it is worth going if this restaurant is not far from where you locate, or else I think there probably have many better choices around.
If you come across a good one, please do comment below and I would love to visit on my next trip!

After You Dessert Cafe @ Bangkok Thailand

So, I decided to make a post about the dessert I had in Bangkok.
Since I said I will revisit After You Dessert Cafe again after my first visit, so here comes the second visit.
Just in case you never heard of it before, After You Dessert Cafe is one high-rated cafe to visit in Bangkok; if you searched on google, you will find lots of reviews about it.
It has been around since 2007, and now has expanded to 16 outlets at different locations in Bangkok.
Do check out which outlets near to you when you are in Bangkok, because their desserts can drive you crazy! #hehe

It's my second time visited the outlet at the Central World Plaza.
I wish to visit the outlet at Siam Square on my next visit as I know that branch is much bigger.
The cafe is located at 1st floor, inside the Central World Plaza.
It's very easy to get to the cafe, as long as you go to the cinema area since it locates just right opposite the cinema.
The very eye-catching corner shop gives you a comfortable homie feeling, and I truly adore with the creative interior and atmosphere.

The dessert cafe mainly selling harajuku toast, pancake, kakigori (ice-shaved), biscuits, cakes and coffee.
Normally, people come for their harajuku toast, pancake and kakigori.

I am a big fans of chocolate, so I ordered the Ferrero Toast @ THB195 (small), which is a shibuya toast combined with Ferrero Rocher chocolate, vanilla ice-cream with fresh cream.
It's my second time having the same toast, well it's just too good to have it again and again!
The toast has divided into small cube bite-pieces, so it's easy for sharing.

I also gave a try on their Hazelnut Pancake with Nutella Sauce @ THB175
We chosen this flavour because I always love Nutella, another reason is because Lik like hazelnut. #lol
The pancake itself is soft and fluffy; however it would be good to add some butter because sometimes the pancake can be a bit too dry with just Nutella itself.

I have no idea what to order for kakigori, so I go with the first item showing on the menu, Milo Volcao Kakigori @ THB215.
The kakigori shaved like snow, till it's so fine; and the top is drenched with Milo and Horlicks powders.
Besides, the chewy cake and crunchy biscuit that hide inside the ice shaving are the best kick of this sweet dessert!

It's not cheap at all for having dessert at total THB585, which is about RM70 due to the current exchange rate.
But I think it's worth a try, for sure with all the sinful desserts at After You Dessert Cafe!
However, if you have a group of people to go with you, that's the best because you can try and taste different desserts.
Anyway, if you are interested to read my first review about this cafe, you can check it out at here.

Last but not least, say Hi to David from Melbourne!

My Top 10 Food and Drink in Bangkok

Hello world!
Welcome back to my Bangkok post!
Today, I am going to write about my top 10 favourite food and drink in Bangkok.
I have been sharing Thai food and drink every time I went to Bangkok, so this is just another collection from my trip in August.
I hope you all enjoy it!

Ready? Let's start now!

#1 Stewed Pork Knuckle Rice
Everyone must know well for this because you can find it almost every places in Bangkok.
Stewed pork knuckle, served with rice, boiled egg, and dressing with brown sauce.
You can't leave Bangkok without having the pork knuckle rice, because this is the must eat and try food in the city.
Just in case you don't know, I have blogged about this a few times because this is my top favourite food when I travel to Bangkok. #hehe
If you can't find one, I would recommend the one located at the Platinum Fashion Mall's food court.

#2 Fried Oyster
Fried Osyter has a very different cooking style like in KL.
The Thai omelette cooks with bean sprouts and cooks till golden brown and crispy.
You can have a choice of prawns, mussels or oysters, or you can also choose to mix them all in your omelette.
Don't forget to eat your omelette with their dipping sauce.

#3 Fish Mau Soup
Some people may not enjoy the taste of the fish mau, but for me the delicious taste is something that I cannot forget.
It is always so cheap to have in Bangkok to restore your collagen. #lol
Well, this is another favourite that I cannot leave without in Bangkok.

#4 Crispy Noodle with Pork
I know about this dish from Lik's Thai aunty.
She is a very good cook, and this is one of the dish she usually cook for us.
I really love it, especially the thick gravy.
You can have the crispy noodle with seafood, however I always prefer the pork in Thailand.
You can add a bit of chili powder and vinegar into the gravy to taste differently from the original one.

#5 Mango Sticky Rice
This is one famous dessert in Bangkok.
There are many places in Bangkok are selling Mango Sticky Rice, no matter it is on the streets, or food courts in major shopping malls.
Don't know why the mango in Thailand is so sweet, juicy and fresh!

#6 Wanton Noodle
This is my 3rd time visiting SabX2 Wanton Noodle restaurant.
If you wanna know more about this restaurant, check out at here.
This restaurant is very famous with it's wanton noodle and it attracts many tourists to be here.
It is a bowl of spring noodle with extremely thin roasted pork and a few dumplings.
It offers small and big bowl; it's not surprise if you order another bowl if you get the small bowl as the portion is really quite small.

#7 Tomyam
Everyday in Bangkok, I have been trying different Tom Yam from many restaurants.
But so far, there still nothing has been on the top of my list.
If you come across any good Tom Yam in Bangkok, do let me know and I am sure I want to try it on my next trip!

#7 Local Ice-Coffee
If you love coffee, Thai local coffee at the street stalls is something you must try!
Well, the main reason I like it very much is because it has a strong coffee smell although it adds with sweetened condensed milk and ice.

#9 Street Noodles
Street food in Bangkok is always convenient, cheap and delicious.
Though the weather is very warm to eat at the road side, but the good food can't really stop you from that.
There are many different kind of noodles to choose, also you can choose if you want it dry or soup with it,
I always have noodle with soup because I like to add condiments to my noodle soup, such as sugar, dried chili powder, ground peanut, vinegar with chili and fish sauce.

#10 Pad Thai
You can get various types of Pad Thai every where in Thailand because it's another famous and signature food in Thailand.
For me, I do not like to eat it with the original taste, whereby I prefer to add a pinch of chili powder and lime juice till it suits to my taste bud.

I know there are still many food, drink and dessert that I did not cover in this post, such as Thai grilled pork skewer, papaya salad, rubies dessert etc; yet if you are interested to get to know more about the other Thai food in Bangkok, you can check out my previous posts which is under the label #Bangkok.
I am sure you will find more interesting stuffs to try in Bangkok from all my collection.
I love to eat in Bangkok, because food there is always very delicious, spicy and sour, and the price usually does not cost a bomb.
Do share with me if you have any good recommendation in Bangkok, I would love to know all for my next trip.
Anyway, thanks for dropping by, see you again on my next Bangkok post - I'll be blogging either a dessert cafe or a Japanese restaurant ya!

Ma Hi Thai Restaurant @ Asiatique Bangkok

When I travelling in Bangkok, I will visit Asiatique The Riverfront for sure.
It's a night market that worth so much to visit for tourists, shoppers and eaters.
Usually I will spend my dinner while do some shopping there.
Everytime I will spend my dinner at the Chic Grill Seafood Restaurant, an authentic Thai restaurant that located at District 6 inside the market.
I have blogged about it in August last year, and here's the link
I like the restaurant very much because the food are delicious with reasonable prices.
This time, I find Asiatique has some changes compare my last visit, as it has more Thai restaurants.
So, we gave a try to a new restaurant, Ma Hi Thai Restaurant.

Ma Hi Thai Restaurant located somewhere near to the Chic Grill Seafood Restaurant.
I can't remember the exact location, but if you can find the Chic Grill at District 6, you probably will see Ma Hi as well.

The restaurant is quite big, but it was so busy during the time we went.
There are many tables and chairs but all occupied by the customers.
I realized there are more foreigners than the locals after we settled down in the restaurant.

For appetizer, we ordered Green Mango Salad @ THB130, which is one of the best seller on the menu.

For the dishes, we had Wok Fried Kale Fried in Oyster Sauce with Crispy Pork @ THB140.
The taste was average, but I find the crispy pork was too dried-out, and too hard to chew.

Second dish we had the Wok Fried Pork and 1000 years with Basil @ THB150.
I would highly recommend this for you when you are in Thailand, no matter it is at the Ma Hi Thai Restaurant or any other Thai restaurants, that's one of the best Thai dish to get me excited. #hehe

And the third dish we had is the Sea Bass Fish Stir Fried with Celery @ THB280.
Although it stated as the best seller on the menu, I think the taste is just on an average.
Also, the portion of this dish is quite small though.

If you asked what's the best among the others we ordered, I would say the Grilled Squid @ THB130.
I actually have tried it at other Thai restaurants in Malaysia, so I have no doubt how good it is, especially the green chili sauce that comes with the dish.

For me, a Thai beer is a must to have when you have your Thai food. :)
Overall, this restaurant is just average in my opinion, in terms of the taste quality of their food and restaurant environment.
We were served quite fast and also got our food in a short time.
But other than that, we didn't get any services.
We actually had to go to the front cashier to ask for the checks as we waited for long time.
I think I would not go back again, since there are so many other restaurants in Asiatique.
For those who are visiting Asiatique for the first time, I would say the Chic Grill Seafood Restaurant is much better.

Amari Watergate Bangkok @ Bangkok Thailand

Back in August, I traveled to Bangkok again.
I can't remember how many times I have been to Bangkok.
It almost became my second home country. #hehe
There are too many reasons to come back to Bangkok again and again.
First, the shopping experiences, the authentic Thai food, only 2 hours flight from KL, many affordable hotels etc.
Too many reasons to count!
Each time I visit Bangkok, I prefer to stay at different hotels to have different experiences.
So without any special reasons, this time I choose to stay at a 5 stars hotel, which is within the Pratunam district of Bangkok.

Amari Watergate Bangkok consider a famous hotel at the Pratunam area if you lookout from the hotel booking websites.
I usually book my hotels at Agoda.com in order to collect the points for my next holiday. #hehe
The hotel is a bit pricey than the other boutique hotels; not only because it is rated at 5 stars, but also it is conveniently close to many attractions with short walking distances.

For example, the Platinum Wholesale Mall is just located in front of the hotel, it is about 10 minutes walk to Central World Plaza and Erawan Shrine, and about 20 minutes from Siam Square and Siam Paragon.

The hotel was very busy when we arrived there.
But I have to say that the staffs are all very friendly, patient and helpful.
Some of them even give out to help us on the places we wanted to go. #thankyou

The waiting area at the lobby is spacious with relaxed ambiance.
Good for chilling together with your friends and families.

Complimentary ice-waters everyday at the lobby.

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool on the 8th floor.

We booked the Grand Deluxe Twin Room and the room is surprisingly small.
Or maybe I expected too much? :p

Right in front of the bed, there is a TV and a working desk.
There are some famous channels are on the TV such as MTV (my most favourite when I'm on vacation), HBO, BBC, CNN, ABC Asia Pacific, Discovery etc.
Also, the free Wifi at this hotel is good and quite stable.

A comfortable couch for you to enjoy your suppers while watching TV programs.

Not many storage is available inside the room, but the luggage rack is good enough to keep the room neat and tidy.

Move on to the bathroom.

There is a bathtub and it is well maintained and clean.

To me, I prefer to use the shower instead of the bathtub, so it's good to have a separated single room for the shower.
Some other hotels may have bath and shower combined, which I don't like.

Free toiletries are available at the sink area.

Also complimentary bottled water will be refilled everyday.

We have our room with overlooking views of the city centre.

During this trip, we only ride with Uber and I think it becomes the best way to get around Bangkok.
Not to mention about the traffic in Bangkok, you just gonna have a good planning on your time to avoid the roads in Bangkok during peak hours.
In my view, Tuk Tuk in Bangkok is fun to travel with, but I think Uber worth the money after all.

Amari Watergate Bangkok indeed a pleasant experience for us.
It's kind of a life time experience staying in a 5 stars hotel.
However, if you stay outside all the time with sightseeing and shopping, I would prefer to stay at the reasonable boutique hotels.
We paid total RM1730 for 4 nights, so I think it's quite expensive.
All in all, if you are a looking for a great hotel to pamper yourself on your vacation, I would highly recommend this hotel.
