Hippo Weekend Retreat at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort @ Langkawi Kedah

Hello everyone!
It's mid June, how's you all doing so far?
I had a very good start in June!
I traveled to Perth with my family and spent one week holiday over there.
Perth is such a nice city to relax; it is quiet but has so much to offer to the tourists.
We went to many beautiful places, and I was very glad that my parents enjoyed Perth very much.
I think the most important thing is I got to recharge myself during the holiday; clear my mind and mentally prepare myself for the second half of the year.
Opps! I probably dragged too far from today's topic, I supposingly wanna share my weekend retreat trip in Langkawi with my girl, Wan back in April.
Me and Wan made the travel plan in advance without something popping up in the middle, and so happy that the trip finally happened!

This is my second time visiting Langkawi; the first visit was with Lik in 5 years ago.
So on this trip, we didn't plan to visit any tourist attractions, but came with a main purpose of finding a place for a truly relaxing break.
We spent 3 days 2 nights at the island, and most of the time we just laid back at our hotel because the resort we stayed was very good, which was really exceeded our expectations.

Accommodation

It's one of the dream like place to stay in for holiday in Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi.
The hotel is located at the famous Pantai Cenang, which is the busiest beach town on Langkawi Island.
It is also near to the Langkawi airport, which just took us about 15 minutes to drive there.

The hotel is really huge.
After we parked our car, we entered to the lobby.
We were first greeted with smiling faces and a glass of welcome drink.
The check in process was very smooth, which just took less than 10 minutes.
After that, the staff explained every facilities and places inside the hotel with a detailed map of the property.

Wow!!! That's my very first reaction from the moment I stepped into the room.
The room was so spacious and made me feel at home right away in there.
Our room is at one of the poolside villas and the room itself was very clean.
The bed was super comfortable too!

There is a living room inside the villa with two wooden lounge chairs and a coffee table
The room is spacious and got you plenty of room for family bonding or friend's gathering. :)

A flat screen TV in the room with cable.

The room has the bottled mineral water supplied everyday, and also coffee and tea making facilities at the mini bar corner.

The bathroom is also very spacious with vanity area, and also a separate standing shower and bathtub.

We had our own balcony which overlooked the pool at the back of the villa!

Buffet Breakfast

Our stay offers a complimentary breakfast inside the hotel.

The buffet breakfast was so great!
There are so much choices and come with different cuisines, such as Western, Chinese, Malay, Indian and Japanese.

The Chinese station features a noodle corner which serves wide array of hot-off-the stove noodles.

There are several types of breakfast egg preparations done at the egg corner, such as scramble eggs, sunny side up, fried egg, omelettes.
All you have to do is just named it!

Roti Bakar on the stove. :)

My all time favourite breakfast choice.

Activities inside the Meritus Hotel

If you traveled to Langkawi, you should plan a visit to Kuah Town for the duty free shopping.
We spent one of the afternoon at the downtown area to buy chocolates and alcohols from the duty free shops.
These are the great things to buy and take back home as your souveniers.
The chocolates are so cheap compare to the prices in the markets!
Other than that, we spent most of our times inside the resort because the resort has so much things to do!

Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi is spread over a huge area with it's own private beach.
In the morning, after we had our breakfast, we had our beautiful morning walk on the beach.

Stunning view of the beach!

The sound of the waves, fresh air by the sea, and endless sky made us happy.

We also went for squash on site but were asked to pay about RM10/each person for the racket and property rentals.
This is a little disappointed as we thought it would be good to have it covered under the room fees as well.

There are two swimming pools inside the resort; one is located in front of the lobby, and the other one is at the back, behind the villas.

I think both swimming pools have almost the similar sizes, but we prefer to swim at the one nearer to our room because apparently it had less crowd and also it's so close to our room. :)

Since we both were not very enjoyed the bright sun in the day time, we only went swim in the late evening. :)

Food at Pantai Cenang

On the first dinner, we visited the Restaurant Sea Shells located at Pantai Cenang.
It's very near to Meritus Hotel which was just about 5 minutes drive.

The best thing about our dinner at this restaurant is the location.
It was surrounded by the paddy field, whereby we were actually having our food in the middle of paddy field.

We ordered a dinner set with the lamb shank, steamed fish, crackers and steamed rice.
Besides, we also had an ala-carte menu of an omelette and apple juice.
We both were very impressed with the food quality though the food pricing wasn't very cheap; we spent about RM100 for the dinner, but we agreed that the food were tasty, which worth a try!
Wan also said that this is truly a traditional Malay Kampung food experience in Malaysia which actually very hard to get it in the city now.

On the second evening, we went to the Orkid Ria Seafood Restaurant which recommended by Wan's friend.
The restaurant is also located at the same road as Cenang Beach, just a 2-3 minutes walking distance from the Restaurant Sea Shells.

We ordered 4 dishes all together, include fried calamari, bbq fish, oyster omelette, and fried vegetables.
Overall the foods were satisfying, and we total spent about RM100++ for everything.

One of the best highlight at the Orkid Ria is their big fresh oyster!
The oysters are super fresh and yummy!
We both like the oyster very much and went back again the next day before we flew back to KL. #hehe

I was glad that the short vacation came on the right time when I think I need it the most. :)
Taking frequent short breaks sometimes is better than one long holiday, what do you all think?
In short, the weekend retreat at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort was great and I would said this paradise is best for those who are looking for a short gateaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If you are looking for a relaxing gateway, the resort will sure not disappoint you in anyway.
Last but not least, watch my new vlog about my trip and don't forget to subscribe me too! #muacks

See you on my next post again!
