Eat with me @ Kuching Sarawak / Part 1

It's been a while ago since my last travel posts, I know my recent posts were full of special screening of new movies. #hehe
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy all the previews I have written. #thankyou
So, today I am going to continue to post about my trip in Kuching, and today is just all about food!
Kuching has too many good food to share, whereby I will separate them into few posts; do stay tune with me after the part 1 ya!

When we first arrived at Kuching, my friend Kay brought us to the Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre, located at Padungan. (picture credited to google)
This is also one of my favourite food court in Kuching, as I always asked my friends to bring me whenever I travel to there.
Well, what makes me so attempted to this place?!

Balacan Bee Hoon is one of the famous local dish you must try in Kuching, and I don't think this is available in KL.
It cooks with balacan source which has the tiny shrimp mixed paste with salt and fermented.
If you like the smell and taste of balacan, then I bet you shouldn't miss this out!

Another special dish you must try out at the hawker centre is the tomato noodle/tomato kueh Teow.
The outlook and the texture are like "watan hor" that we have in KL, except the gravy is made of tomato sources.
It has a nice balance in between the sweet and salt tastes.

We ordered noodle and Kueh Teow both for try.
Both are good in their own ways, but I would recommend you to have the noodle one, because it is more crispy to eat with the gravy.

When you are looking for drinks, you should just order the sugarcane with coconut.
It comes in a big glass and only cost about RM2.
It is a must have refreshing drink during the hot weather in Kuching!

If you just want some snacks for small bite, maybe you can try the FooChow traditional Gong Pia, which fills with minced meat.
Although I didn't take the Gong Pia at this Padungan hawker centre, but this Gong Pia is available over there too (you might realize the picture background looks differently though). #hehe

Or maybe fruits rojak with cucumber, papaya, pineapples, crispy biscuits, etc?!

On the first night in Kuching, Kay and Stella invited us for a dayak cuisine.
This is my first time having Dayak food although I have been there few times.
They introduced us this famous authentic Dayak food in Kuching, the.dyak which located at Jalan Simpang Tiga.

Well, what Dyak restaurant serves?
Dyak is pronounced as Da-Yak and was an old English spelling of the word which refers to the indigenous first nation people of Sarawak, Borneo.
So, all the foods are the recipes from the local native people, Iban.
Stella has advised us few times that we might not get use to their special taste or spice of the food, but it worth a try since we fly all the way from KL to Kuching.

It is a very well known Dayak restaurant to visit in Kuching, as it won a certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor in year 2013.

The restaurant has a lovely decorations with all kind of Iban feels.

The wall at the place is full of interesting historical artifacts and paintings.
It does help to learn a little bit about the Dayak history and culture during your visit.

It doesn't have a big space like other big restaurants, so would suggest you to make a booking before you go; yet the overall atmosphere is pretty comfortable and calming.

They do not serve white rice but a special rice brown rice with unpolished whole grain indigenous on replica Ching Dynasty porcelain kitchenware.
It is RM3 per serving.

For the meat dishes, we have Jani Kari @ RM25, which is a simple pork dish with rich and spicy curry gravy.

Manok Gulai Upa Kelapa @ RM25; chicken braised in a creamy and mild spicy soup with shredded coconut palm.

Manok Lulun @ RM23, also known as Pansoh.
It is chicken dish which cooks in bamboo with the mixed of gingers, onions, lemongrass and tapioca leaves.
It's also a traditional dish serves at Dayak festivals.

Jani Tunu @ RM25, is a grilled three layered pork, includes skin, fat and lean meat.
It serves together with their special chef source, lime, cucumber and tomatoes.
One of my favourite dish of that night.

And for the vegetable delights, we have Paku Kubok @ RM10.
It is a hot and spicy vegetable dish which stir-fries with fragrant wild ginger flowers, anchovies and chilies.

Daun Ubi Guring @ RM12, with mashed tapioca leaves stir-fries with garlic.
I personally do not enjoy this dish because I found it has a special strong and strange taste of vegies.

Ensabi Guring @ RM10, is a bitter mustard leaves stir-fries with garlic.

When it comes to dessert, please remember to order their signature The Special @ RM13.
It is a combination of the Tuak Iced Cream and Asi Manis Ice Cream.
It consists of 2 layers of this special dessert, which fill sticky rice at the bottom, and a big scoop of ice cream at the top.
It is so yummylicious!

Dayak also have their own special brew wine.
Try their Tuak Stambuk Ulu Wine, before or after your meal.
It worth a try because it is special made from glutinous rice by the Iban.

RM10 for one shot.
RM16 for one glass, like the one I am holding it.
RM80 for one 750ml bottle.
It really worth a try, no matter it is a glass, a bottle or even a snip of it!
The taste is very different to other wines you get from other places.

We thanks for the special dinner of that night which organized by Kay, Stella, Andrew and Chuan.
The foods are very special than what we usually have in KL, a bit extra ordinary; but it was a GREAT experience after all!

Gala Premiere Screening @ Knock Knock Who's There 有客到

The hungry ghost festival is one of the traditional Chinese festival, which usually fall in the end of August and last for a month in our Western calendar.
And, every year of this festival session, there will be definitely many horror movies are releasing in the cinemas
This year, we have the Knock Knock Who's There 有客到, from HK!

It was such a great honor to be invited to the gala premiere screening of this movie at GSC Pavilion on last Friday.
This time I was not only watched the movie one week before it release on the big screens, but also have the chance to meet and greet the special guests from the movie.
Stay tune on my post and you will find out who are the big guests of that night! #hehe

Thank you Grabies again for such rare opportunity!
For more information about Grabies, please check out my previous post here about them!

Because of this special pass, I got the privilege to stand right in front of the stage and meet closely with the special guests!
It sounds like a reporter hey!

Here you go!
Give your big HI to Carrie Ng 吴家丽, the director and Kate Tsui 徐子珊, the main actress, of the movie!

I know about Carrie's Ng through her previous movies of 孟兰神功 and 香港仔, whereby she left a deep impression to me because of the good movies she has done.
So, it was kinda excited for me to meet her in person on that night, plus this is her first directed horror movie. #luckyme

If you watched TVB's dramas, for sure you will know Kate Tsui.
She is so slim and fit in person, and she was humorous as she kept mugging with her fans, and also make jokes throughout the access.

Carrie said she hopes this movie will bring the Chinese funeral culture especially in HK to other countries, and she also shared the "weird" experiences during her filming process.
Katie said her biggest challenge in this movie is to have a close relationship with the cat.

Knock Knock Who's There, also known as Chinese title 有客到, which means "a guest has arrived".
This phrase is usually announce when guests arrive at the funeral home to pay the last respect to the deceased ones.
This is very common to hear when you attend the Chinese funeral especially in HK, yet I think it is not as common as in Malaysia.
This movie consists of three different stories which mainly titled as Missing, Karma and Smell; all these stories are surrounding with one funeral home.

"Missing" is about a bride-to-be, Isabelle, who died tragically in a car accident.
She broke off with her ex-boyfriend, who works at the funeral home, due to the misunderstanding which created by the Isabelle' sister.

Faith is faith, they both meet at the funeral home again after she died, and their sparkles reignited even though she's a ghost.

"Karma", is a story about Yung's stepparents, who are gambling addicts.
In order to bring more lucks to their gamble games, they caught a black cat from the alley, put it in the coffin, and perform a ritual called "lucky cat".

Unusual things happened to Yung, the one who always takes care of the black cat before it was killed.

"Smell" is about an incident of Yan, who works at the funeral home, and doesn't believe in ghost.
One day, she picks up a phone of a girl, who dies in an accident.
They start to make friends through texting each other everyday frequently.

A true story of a psychopath was found by Yan, when the girl asks her to do a favor for her.
I like this story more compare to the others, and I was pretty amazed with Jennifer Tse (Nicholas Tse's sister), she is pretty good in this movie though.

Thanks again to Seeties and Grabies for such an invitation.
End the post with a group picture, together with the 2 big stars in the cinema!

This new movie will be released on this hungry ghost festival, 27 August 2015.
Enjoy the trailer before you catch it at the cinemas!

What if you have a special power that allows you to do absolutely anything you want, what would be the first 3 wishes you want to make them come true?
A lot of money? Travel around the world? A handsome boyfriend? A beautiful girlfriend?
My first wish is FLY me to KOREA and meet Park Yoo Chun before he join the military duty in 5 days later.
My second wish is Malaysia please SNOW!
And my last wish is to TRAVEL around the world!
#lollollol

Well, that's the upcoming comedy, Absolutely Anything all about!
It is a comedy which directed by Terry Jones, with starring Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale and special voiced by Robin Williams, who just passed away in August last year.

He gifted this special power is because he got the challenge by a group of power-crazed aliens who are watching him from space, as this gift onto Neil is a last chance attempt to save the Earth from being destroyed.

Everything becomes so easy for Neil after he realized of his special power.
He wanted a great body and he got one.
Eating has become easy as the food flew into his mouth by just his command.
Having his clothes dress him and improving his body.
The dog of Neil is given the ability to speak.

There are also some special screens that for sure will make your laugh out loud.
Like Neil made everyone who has died alive again, but that backfired as zombies began roaming around.
When Neil was asking for a great body and being turned out differently in front of the mirror.
Dennis, the dog of Neil asked for biscuits, biscuits! please, please! nothing else matters, when he was given the ability to communicate with Neil.

It's a simple yet funny story.
I believe everyone of us truly enjoyed all the laughs!
Once again, thanks to Seeties and Granocost for the special premiere screening in the town last week.

This new comedy is now launched in Malaysia at all cinemas.
Before you grab your tickets, let's take a look at the trailer for this!

Metropark Bazaar @ Tropicana Metropark

How's everyone last weekend? Hope yours were good!
I went to the Metropark Bazaar on last Saturday located at Subang Jaya.
It was a real sunny hot day, but it was still fun while spending time together with a group of bloggers and organizers.

Nice knowing everyone; Hello to Ariq, Eddy and Wendy!

Tropicana Metropark is a new development which setting a new township in Subang Jaya.
It would be the biggest township in Subang Jaya as it has at least 88 acres of freehold land, which combines residences, business spaces, retails spots and recreational areas.
The project will be completed around year of 2023.

There are total 3 residences whereby each phase consists of 500 units.
The size of each units starting from 600 - 1300 sq ft, and it costs about RM800 per sq ft.
The entire development covers by a 9.2 acres central park and with a comprehensive range of educational, medical, commercial and public infrastructure.

The current development of the service residences are Pandora at phase 1 and Paloma at phase 2.
You can get the chance to view the entire development through the viewing deck, located just outside of the sales office.

For welcoming the new development in town, the developer has organized a weekend bazaar for the public with music performance, food trucks, as well as various stalls selling gadgets, homemade food and drinks, garments, accessories and many more.
It consider the biggest bazaar so far in Subang area!

Well, let's check out the bazaar with the RM40 vouchers I have on my hand now! #hehe

There are many homemade food and drinks are available at the bazaar, and I would like to highlight some of them which I think they have the best.
D Leaf Bakery offers all kind of chiffon cakes in different flavours like cheese, butter, fruits and many more.
All price ranges are from RM8 to RM10 for a box like this.

There are too many choices till I hardly make my decision. #lol
I think one of the best to get is the Parmesan Cheese Cake; the texture is so light and airy with a tiny of Parmesan cheese, it's one of the amazing recipe that you have to try!

Bean De'licious sells fresh homemade soy bean pudding (Tau Foo Fah).
It is freshly made without any gypsum powder, preservative, and pigment flavor, hence it can only last for 3 days by leaving it in the refrigerator.

Original and Matcha are the two flavours available at the stall.
Both are good, not very sweet; but I personally prefer the Matcha flavour because it is not easy to find anywhere else.
Get 1 for RM4 and get 3 for only RM10.
I brought one set for my mum and she likes it a lot like I do! #lol
You can always follow their Facebook page here and see if they have a stall nearby your place.

Another big highlight of the other stall is Choco Delight.
They offer everything in chocolate, like chocolate chips, brownies and choc moist cake.
The chocolate chips were so surprisingly good as the outlook looks nothing special, but it is so crispy and it smells so delicious on your first bite!
Also, the sweetness was just right on the choc moist cake; the moist and coco mixed so well till it truly melted my heart.

All prices are very much reasonable and affordable compare to the outside restaurants.
They have the same quality standard as in the expensive restaurants, so why pay more?!

Moving on to the new things I have explored in the town.
SodaXxpress is Malaysia's first Sparking Water Maker.
The whole device, inclusive of the carbonating cylinder and bottle, is only at weight less than 4 kg.
The good thing is it requires no power sockets or batteries to run.

It is portable and light to carry almost everywhere to create your own fizzy drink like sparkling cocktails, teas and other beverages.
Besides, the process of making it is as easy as pie, by just clicking, pressing and releasing!
Well, why drink sparkling water? It is good for your digestion; if you have any constipation problem, sparkling water might work for you?!
It can be purchased now at selected Chatime outlets, and you can also order it online at their office website here.

Green Room is developing brand for healthy green tea in Malaysia.
That's why you will see all kinds of their products like greeting cards, notebooks, accessories are all so "greenie" in made.

The highlight of the Green Room is their Sencha Green Tea.
We usually drink green tea in hot water, but this Sencha green tea can be cold brewed as well.
Just steep one sachet with cold water and it's ready for drink anytime at anywhere.
How cool is it?!
Check out their Facebook page here and see where this green tea is available at.

There are beverages trucks available at the bazaar too.
The Laughing Monkey Cafe provides you affordable, rich and freshly brewed coffee.
All hot drinks are at price RM6 to RM9, pretty much cheaper than the ones in cafe!
Laughing Monkey is available to call for all kinds of events, so if you are interested to have them in your event, you can contact them at their Facebook page here.

I got my Cappuccino for the day, what's yours then?

Other than the above stalls I recommended, there are also some good stalls to spend time with.
Like Turkish Ice Cream and kebabs by Sam, the Turkish man.
The ice-cream costs at RM5 and kebab costs at RM8.

You can also find some finger foods over the bazaar like Apong which sponsored by the Tropicana Golf Club.

Fish crackers.

BBQ sausages in different meats.

You can also shop your outfit at the bazaar with different accessories and clothing too!

Maybe get your Henna done?

Other than spending at the bazaar, Metropark Bazaar also brings you jazz singer Atilia Haron and Prema Yin for the music performance.
Here's the Atilia Haron at the show on that lovely afternoon!

The bazaar does not only organize the activities for the adults, but also for the kids.
Your kids can get to make some interesting crafts with other kids over the bazaar while you are doing your shopping.
It''s free of charge by only register at the service counter there.

There is a park at the end of the bazaar whereby your kids can have fun with some bubble games and activities.

I remember when I was in the United States, we always have outdoor activities like picnic; well it is so difficult to have such activity in Malaysia due to the weather.
This bazaar has arranged a special picnic area for the visitors, whereby you can enjoy your food and live performance with your families and friends.
I am sure it would be a different experience for you to get out of the usual activities, like hanging out at shopping malls.

It was a well spent day at the bazaar!
The Bazaar will be on every 2nd Saturday of the month, until October 2015 (the upcoming one will be 19th September)
Make sure you have yourself free on the days and experience a different weekend out day with your families and friends!
